Kick-off meeting of NRPs 70 and 71: first meeting with all researchers

On 24 April 2015, more than 250 researchers of the two National Research Programmes "Energy Turnaround" (NRP 70) and "Managing Energy Consumption" (NRP 71) met at the kick-off event at the KKL.

During the next four years, the two National Research Programmes NRP 70 and NRP 71 will explore the scientific and technological as well as the social and economic aspects of implementing Energy Strategy 2050. On 24 April 2015, a kick-off event focusing on the presentation and sharing of information took place at the KKL in Lucerne.

Researchers of the more than 100 projects of the two NRPs, members of the two Steering Committees and important stakeholders from industry, administration and associations met for the first time. The participants learnt more about the various projects by means of poster sessions (available for download on the project pages of the NRP 70 website and the NRP 71 website), science slams and conversations. The focus was on tapping synergies between the projects and the two NRPs.

Keynote speaker Werner Sobek presented an interesting integrated approach to the energy turnaround. His audience was particularly fascinated by remarks about the "Active House" concept that he developed.

In the next four years, more than 300 researchers will study renewable energy supply and demand as well as options for balancing the two. Besides innovative technologies, the results will include identifying the necessary economic, political and social conditions as well as developing management tools that will facilitate implementation in Switzerland in the next 10 to 30 years. The meeting of 24 April 2015 represents an important milestone in achieving these aims.
